about the wildcats
In the fall of 2007, while watching their sons play flag football with the Omaha Racers, two homeschooling moms, Sheryl Walker and Phyllis Titus, dreamed of establishing a team closer to their homes in West Omaha. Working with Fast Forward Fitness owner, Daryl Kucera, their dream became reality when the West Omaha Blazers took the field in September 2008.
In early 2009, the team’s board mutually agreed to end its association with Fast Forward Fitness and changed the team’s name to the West Omaha Wildcats. In the spring of 2009, the search for a new head coach commenced and Aaron Titus, a former flag football player, home school graduate, and sophomore at UNO, was selected. Sheryl Walker served as the first Athletic Director from 2009 until 2012, followed by Tami Bourland (2012-2017), Ken Clipperton (2017-2020), Gregg and Jodie Madsen (2020-2024), and Jon Carrison, who became the Athletic Director in 2024.
The first team started with 16 players and finished with a 1-8 record. The Wildcats quickly improved and have had numerous achievements over the years. The Wildcats were crowned champions of the Omaha Flag Football Tournament in 2012, 2020, 2021, and 2023 (there were no tournaments from 2016-2018) and were champions at the KACS Tournament in Abilene, Kansas, in 2012 and 2015. The Wildcats achieved undefeated seasons in 2012 (14-0), 2016 (9-0), 2018 (13-0) and from 2015 to 2017, had a dominant run with a 29-game winning streak.
Aaron Titus is still the Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator. After graduating college in 2021, former player, Bradley Bourland, joined as the Defensive Coordinator. The Wildcats have had many players return as assistant coaches, which is a testament to the culture of the Wildcats "family."
